5G and Your Heart

So, you might have read that and wondered what in the world that new 5G cell tower has to do with your heart. Well, maybe nothing. Or, maybe it is causing irregular heartbeats, specifically known as Atrial Fibrillation or A-Fib. This condition affects a growing number of people.

A-fib can be a potentially life threatening condition and in many cases, surgical procedures are recommended where a surgeon will go in a cauterize or kill certain overactive parts of the heart that are causing an issue. That might seem like a life-saving surgery, but if the underlying condition isn't found and addressed, what happens next? Repeat surgery?

Being diagnosed with A-fib also significantly increases the risk of stroke. This is, of course, something that we want to understand better so, as health care practitioners, we can help people avoid these things and live their healthiest lives.

Recently, I have been seeing an increase in clients who are experiencing A-fib. Obviously, this is a big deal and one that we want to get to the bottom of. So, I put on my nerdy, research hat and started digging in. I learned that A-Fib is the most commonly diagnosed arrhythmia in clinical practice and that "Estimates of the prevalence of AFib in the United States ranges from about 2.7 million to 6.1 million". That number is estimated to rise to 12.1 million in 2030" (1) Those numbers come from the Centers For Disease Control (CDC) and PubMed a reputable Medical Journal. This is a lot of people!

So, I did a little more digging and noticed that cell tower construction and exposure is also increasing. I may not be able to scientifically prove that 5G towers cause A-fib, but I have done my homework enough to know that the radiation put off by these towers, may be causing a specific type of oxidative damage uncouples the arginine/NOS (Nitric Oxide Synthases) and decreases Nitric oxide levels, which can be part of the picture with A-fib. What do we do with this information? I'm glad you asked... I think there are a few things we can do. Number 1, we can be mindful that this may be an issue. There are several different technologies available that we can use to help lessen our exposure to this type of radiation. There is a necklace called the Harmoni Pendant (www.harmonipendant.com) that you can look into. This is necklace has been created to help mitigate the risks of exposure to EMF.

Other things we can do are to practice something called "grounding" where we go barefoot outside. This helps our bodies eliminate some of this harmful radiation. We can keep our devices far from us as much as possible. Don't carry your phone around in your pocket all day for example.

Another thing you can do is to utilize supplementation that helps increase your nitric oxide levels. There are a few that I like, so please reach out to me if you have questions about those. Eating organic beets provide a great dose of healthy nitrates, and have so many other health benefits, so consider eating those as much as possible. Proper methylation is also very important in this process, so eating foods that act as methyl donors is also important. Those would be onions, garlic, green leafy and cruciferous vegetables. There are some wonderful tests that focus around nutrient deficiency and methylation that might also be of value. Eating proper amounts of folate or supplementing as necessary is also a piece of this puzzle.

I hope you found this article helpful. I think we will see this issue more and more as the expansion of 5G continues. There is no way to avoid it altogether, so proper understanding is critical.

To your health,

Dr. Jeni
